What I like: Taylor is a big prospect who understands the importance of gap integrity as a defensive tackle. He’s strong and knows how to use leverage to clog up the line of scrimmage, which enables linebackers to flow freely to the football. Taylor shows the advanced upper-body technique to shed blockers, and can track down ball carriers with his high motor. He is one of the better run-stopping defensive tackles I’ve watched in this year’s recruiting cycle, and his overall game reminds me of my former teammate, Travian Robertson.

Instant impact? Coach Muschamp could give Taylor opportunities to contribute on first downs and short yardage situations due to his effectiveness against the run. But given the depth of returning players at the defensive tackle position, it will be tough for Taylor to see the field as a true freshman. I believe a redshirt season would be in the best long-term interest for Taylor and the Gamecocks, so that he can become a force on the interior later in his career.

Rivals rating: I believe Taylor has the potential to develop into solid starter for the Gamecocks at defensive tackle, and so I agree with his 5.7 three-star status – which is a very good rating.
