South Carolina offers in-state quarterback

Piedmont (S.C.) Wren class of 2017 three-star quarterback Jay Urich landed one of the offers he's been hoping for on Thursday.

South Carolina co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper was by the school and extended the scholarship.

"I'm really excited to get an offer from USC!" Urich said. "It's such a blessing!"

Urich is fresh off a visit to South Carolina for the Gamecocks' spring game.

"I think what stood out this time is it was a more personalized visit and I got to spend a lot of time with Coach Roper," Urich said. "I got to spend some quality time with him and continue to build that relationship."

Urich, a dual-threat quarterback, says that Carolina has focused on his fit in their offense.

"When I went down for the spring practice, I got to stand on the sideline while Coach Roper was coaching up the offense and just see the plays and different formations," Urich said. "I got to see the behind the scenes of the plays and it's very similar to what we run at Wren. I think Coach Roper likes that and that I can run and throw - that's one thing that he's been high on with me."

Urich says he'll continue to enjoy the recruiting process and take it all in moving forward.

Urich is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 20 prospect in the state.
