Shell selected in NFL Draft

South Carolina offensive tackle Brandon Shell was drafted by the New York Jets in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

A four-year starter for the Gamecocks, the 6-foot-5, 325-pound Shell played left tackle as a senior at South Carolina after spending three seasons at right tackle, the position NFL.com says he's probably best suited to play at the next level.

Shell played in 52 games overall, making 48 career starts, including 47 consecutive starts.

A four-star prospect out of Goose Creek (S.C.) High, Shell was was listed as the state's third-best player, the fourth-best offensive tackle in the country and the 66th-best player regardless of position by Rivals.com.

Shell's great uncle is Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Shell.
