John Scott Jr. expected to take Penn State job

South Carolina defensive line coach John Scott Jr. is expected to take the vacant defensive line job as Penn State, Gamecock Central has learned.

Scott played for Penn State defensive coordinator Brent Pry at Western Carolina and has a longstanding relationship with him; also having served as a coach with him at Georgia Southern.

Scott was not heavily involved with the recruitment of five-star defensive end Jordan Burch as he handled the Gamecocks' interior lineman while Mike Peterson coaches the edge players.

Scott, a Greer, S.C. native, has been at South Carolina for one season, helping develop Javon Kinlaw, likely a first round pick in this year's draft.

Scott isn't the only coach who appears to be on the move.

South Carolina running backs coach Thomas Brown is expected to take a job with the NFL's Los Angeles Rams, according to a Tweet from Fox Sports and The Athletic's Bruce Feldman. While Gamecock Central doesn't have direct confirmation, industry sources agreed with that report.
