Hurst placed on scholarship

Sophomore tight end Hayden Hurst's hard work has been rewarded in the form of a scholarship, GamecockCentral.com has learned.

Hurst joined the program as a walk-on last summer and played in all 12 games with one start. The 22-year old was originally a 17th-round MLB Draft selection out of Jacksonville in the 2012 class and played two seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Hurst has played tight end and wide receiver during his career thus far, having been moved permanently to the tight end position prior to the spring. Last season, he caught eight passes for 106 yards in total. The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder is a projected starter at the position in Kurt Roper's offense.
