Holbrook presser recap - Albany

Chad Holbrook
Chad Holbrook (Gamecock Central)

Chad Holbrook held a press conference on Thursday to discuss the season-opening series vs. Albany.

It's an exciting time for our players and coaches. We will have a lot of new faces on the field on Friday. Some will be playing for Gamecocks for first time.

Albany has a very good pitcher throwing Friday. Very good weather expected.

USC has about 12 or 13 starters, so lineup could change on a daily basis. Likely use different catchers. Who plays at catcher will affect who DHs.

Loss of John Parke won't hurt to much because he had been tender in camp. LHP left are Reagan and Fiori. Have some RHP that can matchup with lefty hitters.

Definitely a sense of urgency based on what happened last year. Definitely pressure to perform well here. Expect Gamecocks to play at a high level. I just want the team to play up to its potential.

TJ Hopkins in the mix for OF spot. He will play a lot this year.

Braden Webb will pitching for the first time in about 2 years on Sat. He is eager to show what he can do.

Weber Pike has left the team due to perceived lack of playing time. Crowe, Parke and Morris will redshirt due to injuries. Dillon Hodge got last roster spot.

Anxious to see Dom Thompson-Williams play against another team. Opening Day is unique.
