South Carolina landed a big junior college commitment Wednesday as Justin Row announced his commitment to Chad Holbrook and staff via Twitter.

He will have two years of eligibility left when he arrives in the fall and will be able to play immediately since he’s transferring from a junior college.

“It's in the best conference in the country, the atmosphere and experience is going to amazing,” Row told GamecockCentral.com after committing. “Plus SC is one of the top programs in the country year in and year out. So there isn't much to not like.”

Row, an infielder, currently plays for Fullerton Community College in California. Row’s played in 32 games this season and boasts a .390 batting average with 40 runs scored and 23 RBIs. He also has a slugging percentage of .588.

The batting average would rank first on South Carolina right now (minimum of 130 at-bats) and the 40 runs scored would also be top on the Gamecocks team right now.

Row said he talked a lot to Coach Sammy Esposito during the recruitment process.

“Coach Esposito was great with communication and talking to me and explaining everything that I needed to know,” he said.

Row, who said his primary position is shortstop, will compete immediately for the spot since everyday shortstop and senior Marcus Mooney is leaving after this season. He said his goal in coming to Columbia is to “be the best player I can be, contribute to the team and win a championship.”

But he said being able to compete early is a big plus.

“As a competitor that is always the plan,” he said. “What better stage to step in and compete at the D1 level and at South Carolina? It's a dream come true.”
