Current No. 43 Benji Russell
Benji Russell is a walk-on safety from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, who joined the team in 2014 and has been on the scout team for the last two seasons. Russell turned down a scholarship offer from Dartmouth out of high school.
Former No. 43: Defensive back Dickie Harris
An All-American in 1970 and 1971, Dickie Harris joined the South Carolina program as a running back, but went on to become one of the Gamecocks all-time best defensive backs and return men.
Harris compiled an incredible 2,767 return yards in his career and in 1970 returned a kickoff, punt and interception for touchdown, according to The State.
In his three seasons with South Carolina, Harris totaled 12 interceptions and 144 tackles.
Harris was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach (N.J.).
