South Carolina retired No. 38 in South Carolina's one and only Heisman Trophy Winner George Rogers' last home game in 1980. It was the first time in school history a jersey was retired. He was also honored last season with a statue in front of Williams-Brice Stadium, the first statue outside the stadium ever.

Former No. 38: George Rogers

George Rogers is considered one of, if not the, best Gamecocks to ever play for the garnet and black. The running back played from 1977 to 1980, amassing 5,091 yards rushing and 31 total touchdowns. He won the school's only Heisman in 1980 after rushing for 1,781 yards and 14 touchdowns. His rushing yards and 18,04 yards from scrimmage are still school records. He was also a consensus All-American in 1980.

Rogers was selected No. 1 overall in the 1981 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints and won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1981. He was also a two-time Pro Bowler (1981-1982). He won Super Bowl XXII with the Washington Redskins in 1988. He finished his professional career with 7,176 yards and 54 touchdowns.

Rogers is still involved with South Carolina football and comes to almost every home game. His foundation also does work in the Columbia community. He was recently honored with a sign inside the Gamecocks' new indoor practice facility.
