Freeman's a true freshman running back who's expected to add depth to a relatively inexperienced backfield. A three-star recruit coming out of Northern Guilford High School in Greensboro (N.C.), Freeman committed to South Carolina over other Division I schools like Auburn and Clemson. The 5-foot-11, 196 pounder rushed for 2,091 yards and 23 touchdowns his senior season.

Former No. 36: Warren Muir

Muir was a running back who played for the Gamecocks from 1967 to 1969 and was part of the team that won an ACC Championship. He played in 31 games over his career, rushing for 2,234 yards and 19 touchdowns. He finished first in the ACC in rushing touchdowns in 1969 with eight total scores.

Muir ranks 13th all-time at South Carolina in rushing yards and was a first team All-American two of the three seasons he played in Columbia (1967, 1969). After his accomplishments in college, Muir was picked in the 15th round by the Giants in the 1970 NFL draft.

He was part of the 2003 class inducted to the Carolina Hall of Fame.
