Two Gamecocks named Parade All-Americans

South Carolina running back signee Rico Dowdle was named a first-team Parade All-American while quarterback/baseball early enrollee Brandon McIlwain was named a Parade All-American honorable mention Friday.

Dowdle, a 5-foot-11, 208-pounder from A.C. Reynolds HS in Asheville, N.C., rushed for 2,545 yards and 51 touchdowns -- and accounted for 63 total touchdowns -- as a senior.

McIlwain, a 6-foot, 198-pound dual-sport star, enrolled at South Carolina in January to participate in both baseball and football after a standout prep career in both.

McIlwain threw for 1,720 yards and 18 touchdowns on 147-of-252 passing and rushed for 1,545 yards and 31 touchdowns on 227 carries as a senior.

McIlwain participated in his first weekend of scrimmages with the South Carolina baseball team last weekend and homered twice on Saturday.

Both are expected to compete for playing time on the football team as true freshmen.
