Thursday quick-hitters: Gamecocks talk quarterbacks, tempo

Here are notes from South Carolina's second practice of the spring:

-- South Carolina co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper says the offense is off to a "good start" but there are plenty of things to be fixed.

-- Roper says the quarterbacks need to turn the ball over less and get more completions in the passing game. Those two things are their biggest focus right now.

-- Both running back David Williams and wide receiver Deebo Samuel said the biggest difference in the offense is the tempo that they get lined up. Williams and Samuel said that there's no way to simulate that until you experience it for yourself.

-- Roper said that they would like to name a starting quarterback as quickly as possible, but they have not put a time table on that.

-- Roper acknowledged that Perry Orth has been taking the first reps at quarterback, but reiterated that the battle is wide open and that they just chose to start that way because Orth was the starter at the end of last season.
