Tanner reorganizes senior staff

University of South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner has reorganized his senior staff, giving five administrators new titles and duties, it was announced Friday.

Charles Bloom has been named Executive Associate Athletics Director/Chief of Staff. He will serve as the department's Chief Communications Officer, overseeing media relations, Gamecock productions, SEC Network and the ticket office, and serve as the senior advisor to the athletics director. He will continue as the primary sport administrator for softball. Bloom spent 17 years at the Southeastern Conference before joining Tanner's staff in 2012.

Judy Van Horn, an integral part of the athletics department senior staff since 2011, has been named Executive Associate Athletics Director for Sport & Risk Management. In her new role, Van Horn serves as the Title IX deputy coordinator and athletics department liaison to the Office of Equal Opportunity program and will oversee human resources. She continues to chair the athletics department sport management group, oversee the legal liaison and serve as the senior woman administrator representative for SEC and NCAA governance. In addition, she is the primary sport administrator for volleyball, beach volleyball and men's and women's tennis. Van Horn hails from the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Central Michigan University.

Chris Rogers, who has had oversight of compliance services, which monitors, educates and reviews matters covered under NCAA rules, has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration. In his new role, Rogers will be in charge of the athletics department strategic planning and administrative process reviews, oversee the athletics information technology department and the Student-Athlete Career Success Program, along with assigned special projects, including sports camps. He will continue to serve as the primary sport administrator for men's and women's track & field and becomes the secondary sport administrator for volleyball. Rogers joined the South Carolina staff in 2012 after stints at Minnesota, Utah and Ohio State.

Chance Miller will now guide the department's compliance services as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. In his new role, Miller will directly report to both the athletics director and the University's general counsel. Miller, who joined the USC staff in 2013 after a stint with the NCAA, will also be the primary sport administrator for swimming and diving and the secondary sport administrator for softball.

Eric Nichols joins the senior staff as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Marketing and Branding. Nichols, charged with oversight of athletics' marketing and branding, will continue to serve as Chief Marketing Officer including Gamecocksonline.com, the department's official website, and social media for all sports. He serves as liaison with IMG College and chair of the department's Content Committee. Nichols, who has been with the South Carolina athletics department since 2008, arrived from Vanderbilt University. He continues to serve as the secondary sport administrator for men's and women's soccer.
