Shi Smith commits to USC

Union County (S.C.) class of 2017 four-star wide receiver Shi Smith committed to South Carolina on Saturday after taking multiple unofficial visits to the school this week.

Smith chose the Gamecocks over offers from Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina, N.C. State, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Smith was recruited by running backs coach Bobby Bentley and co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon.

"They’re pretty good," Smith said earlier this week of the Gamecocks coaches. "I like them a lot. They make sure I stay up on my grades and all that. He (McClendon) had told me he wanted to work with me. When we’re on the field, he’ll really get after me."

Smith is ranked the No. 51 wide receiver in the country and the No. 4 prospect in the state of South Carolina.
