Projections: Gamecocks still a national seed

The two major national college baseball media publications have South Carolina (42-13, 20-9) as a top-eight national host seed in the NCAA tournament in their latest projections now that the regular season is completed.

D1Baseball.com has the Gamecocks as the No. 7 national seed with Coastal Carolina, Duke and Kennesaw State coming to a Columbia Regional which is matched up with an N.C. State Regional.

The latest Baseball America projection has South Carolina as the No. 6 seed with the Gamecocks hosting UNC Wilmington, Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State. Interestingly enough, Baseball America has the Columbia Regional matched with a Clemson Regional.

South Carolina will play either Ole Miss or Georgia in the SEC Tournament on Wednesday with first pitch likely around 2:00 ET, depending on when the game before finishes.

South Carolina coach Chad Holbrook has made it clear that he believes his team has done enough to be a national seed.

"That's not for me to decide; I know that's good conversation fodder," Holbrook said. "All I know is this: I know we're SEC East Champions. We have an RPI in the top five. And we finished ahead in the league of some really good teams. So there's no reason to think that we're not a national seed. There's no reason to think that we're not."
