Presser Recap: Super Regional

South Carolina and Oklahoma State held press conferences Friday afternoon before Game 1 of the Super Regional on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Gamecocks:

Exciting time to play in Super Regional. Fortunate to play here. Oklahoma State has great pitching staff and physical hitters.

Beat the heat by staying hydrated, a process that begins today.

Is the MLB draft a distraction? Just trying to focus on the SR. Braden Webb got call during practice. Bad system the way it works now. Webb drafted in 3rd rd despite suffering arm injury in HS. Colleges accomodate MLB, not other way around.

Either Schmidt or Webb will start Game 1 of SR. Won't name starter for Game 2. Both could pitch in Game 1. All hands all deck for all games.

Oklahoma State is as good as most SEC teams. Thomas Hatch is one of the best pitchers in the country.

Turnaround from last season - this is one of the closest teams I've ever been involved with. Good guys w/good character. Rare to get all 35 players in locker room on same page, but that is what happened this season.

Practices have been good this week. We're battle tested as is Oklahoma State.

After regional, we're positioned to play our best baseball. Both teams are evenly matched. Playing another team from a Power 5 conference that we haven't seen before is cool. Neither team knows much about each other, so they can just go out and play and that's the way it should be.

Marcus Mooney is an emotional leader for the Gamecocks.

Oklahoma State

Game 1 starter Thomas Hatch is the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year. Sat out 2015 season with a sprained UCL. 3rd rd selection by the Cubs.

OSU coach Josh Holliday blasts the draft system where the MLB draft is held simultaneously with the Super Regional round.

Both teams have positives coming in - OSU swept through Clemson Regional + USC was forced to go the distance to win the Cola regional. Told his team to pack for 2 weeks when they left Stillwater, Okla., last week.

People at Clemson and USC have been extremely helpful and accomodating to OSU. Haven't played any "games" with practices, etc.
