OrTre Smith announces top five

OrTre Smith, the state of South Carolina's top 2017 prospect, announced his top five schools on Wednesday and plans to announce his commitment on September 11, his birthday.

Smith, in a Tweet, said that UNC, Clemson, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia, in no particular order, made the cut to five.

"I want to thank all of the coaches that gave me the opportunity to further my education and football career at their programs," Smith said. "As of now, these are my top 5 schools, in no particular order, that I will continue to proceed with in my recruiting process. I will be choosing my school of choice on September 11th."

The four-star prospect from Mt. Pleasant's Wando High, recently completed a summer slate of tours that included stops at South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina and Georgia.

The 6-foot-3, 204-pound prospect has been a priority recruit for South Carolina since Will Muschamp arrived in Columbia, while Clemson has only recently turned up the heat on the Clemson legacy prospect.

Smith is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 12 receiver and No. 87 overall prospect in the country.
