Michael Roth called up by Rangers

Former Gamecock pitcher Michael Roth is back in the majors Sunday after the Texas Rangers bought his contract from the team's Triple-A club, the Round Rock Express.

He will report immediately after the Rangers optioned Luke Jackson and placed Colby Lewis on the 60-day disabled list. He will be available out of the bullpen. He joins former Gamecock pitcher Sam Dyson in Arlington. Dyson is the team's closer.

Roth started the season with the Express. He appeared in 17 games, starting 12 with one complete game. The 26-year-0ld went 7-3 with a 2.66 ERA.

In over 81 innings pitched, he tallied 52 strikeouts while only walking 20 batters.

This is Roth's third stint in the majors and first with the Rangers. The other two came on separate occasions with the Los Angels Angels. In the majors, he is 2-1 in 22 appearances with a 7.79 ERA.

Roth pitched for South Carolina from 2009-2012 where he won two national titles.
