Majors wrap-up: Week of April 25-May 1

This update covers games from April 25 to May 1.

Major Leagues

--Jackie Bradley Jr. (Red Sox) had a stellar week going 9-for-24 (.375) against the Astros, Braves and Yankees. He hit two doubles, one triple and a home run. He also scored five times and had seven RBIs. After a week like that, his season average went from .234 to .274.

--Sam Dyson (Rangers) had two appearances in relief, both against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He pitched an inning in both games giving up a total of one hit while striking out two batters in the process. He didn’t pick up a win or loss in either game. He now has a ERA this season of 2.45.

--Steve Pearce (Rays) played in three of the team’s six games this past week, starting two at first base. He went 2-for-7 (.285) with one RBI. His average dropped only slightly, from .263 to .262.

--Justin Smoak (Blue Jays) played in three of the team’s six games last week and started two of them. He finished going 1-for-9 (.111) with an RBI. His average dipped below .200 and sits at .189 now.

Triple-A

--Christian Walker started all seven games for the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore). He went 8-for-27 (.296) with five runs scored and three RBIs. His average dropped, however, from .296 to .287.

--Whit Merrifield played in three games this week for the Omaha Storm Chasers (Kansas City). He went 5-for-15 (.333) with two hits and an RBI. He also walked once. His average rose slightly from .290 to .291.

--Michael Roth pitched twice this week, both in relief, for the Round Rock Express (Rangers). He allowed only two hits in four innings pitched while striking out five. He did not allow a run or give up a walk in either start. His ERA is now 0.63.

--Tyler Webb pitched three relief appearances this week for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRaiders (Yankees). He pitched 3.2 innings and allowed no runs on one hit. He also struck out a batter and didn’t allow a walk. His ERA went from 1.93 to 1.59.

--Evan Marzilli played in four games for the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks). He went 2-for-9 (.222) with a run scored and a walk. He also stole a base. His average is now .200.

Double-A

--Bryan Harper played in two games for the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals). He pitched four innings and gave up one earned run on one hit. He walked two batters while tallying four strikeouts.

--Jordan Montgomery started once for the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) going five innings and getting a no decision. He gave up seven hits and four earned runs while striking out five and giving up a walk. His season ERA is now 2.86.

--Joel Seddon started two games for the Midland RockHounds (A’s) where he picked up his first win of the season Wednesday. He pitched a total of 9.2 innings over the week, giving up 10 hits and six earned runs. He also walked six batters and struck out three. His ERA this season was 17.69 coming into the week and now sits at 11.64.

Advanced-A

--Evan Beal pitched once for the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Royals). He went 1.2 innings and gave up one earned run on one hit. That outing dropped his ERA to 1.54 this season.

--LB Dantzler played in two games for the Dunedin Blue Jays (Blue Jays). He didn’t register a hit in eight at-bats and struck out once.

--Grayson Greiner went 2-for-11 (.181) for the Lakeland Flying Tigers (Tigers). He walked three times and scored three runs. He also drove in a run. He had four strikeouts and his season average is now .294.

--Tanner English was placed on the 7-day disabled list for the Fort Myers Miracle (Twins). He last played April 19.

--Kyle Martin had a big week for the Clearwater Threshers (Phillies), going 9-for-24 (.375) with five RBIs and four runs scored. He walked once and struck out three times, but his season average is a healthy .333.

--Joey Pankake went 4-for-21 (.190) for the Lakeland Flying Tigers (Tigers). He walked four times and scored four times. He also had 3 RBIs and struck out eight times. His season average is below .200 after this week (.175).

Single-A Full Season

--Max Schrock had a big week for the Hagerstown Suns (Nationals), going 9-for-19 (.473) with four runs scored and four RBI. He also walked six times and struck out once. His season average now is a whopping .371.

--Jack Wynkoop started two games for the Asheville Tourists (Rockies) and won both games. He pitched a total of 12.2 innings and allowed five earned runs on 15 hits. He struck out six batters while walking one. He’s now 2-1 on the season with a 2.64 ERA.
