Majors Updates: May 12-May 18

MLB

--Jackie Bradley Jr. continues his recent tear with Boston, going 8-for-20 (.400) with two runs and three RBIs. He was named AL Player of the Week and currently has a majors-best 24 game-hitting streak after going 2-for-3 with a second inning solo HR in Wednesday night's 5-2 victory over the Royals.

--Justin Smoak went 5-for-18 (.278) with Toronto, scoring twice and driving two more in. He also had a home run May 16. His season average is now .293.

--Sam Dyson pitched 2 innings over three appearances in relief for Texas. He was perfect in all three outings, picking up his second save of the season and tenth hold.Wednesday, Dyson was named the Rangers' closer by manager Jeff Banister.

--Steve Pearce had a good week for Tampa Bay going 5-for-18 (.278) with six runs scored and six RBI. He also belted one home run this week as well.

-- Whit Merrifield was called up the majors late Tuesday night and made his MLB debut for the KC Royals Wednesday vs. Bradley and the Red Sox. He started Game 2 of a day-night DH and registered his first-career hit.

Triple-A

--Christian Walker went 5-for-28 (.178) for the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore) with three runs scored and one home run. He also had four RBIs.

-- Merrifield went 7-for-26 (.269) for the Omaha Storm Chasers (Kansas City) with six runs and two homers before being called up by the Royals.

--Tyler Webb pitched one perfect inning for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRaiders (Yankees), striking out one batter.

--Michael Roth started one game this week for the Round Rock Express (Rangers), picking up the win and going five innings. He gave up no runs on two hits. He struck out five.

--Evan Beal pitched in his first game for the Omaha Storm Chasers (Kansas City) this week. He went 1.2 innings in relief, giving up two eared runs on three hits.

Double A

--Evan Marzilli, who was designated for assignment last week, went 9-for-19 (.473) for the Mobile BayBears (Arizona) with six runs and four RBI. It was his first stint in Double A this year.

--Bryan Harper of the Harrisburg Senators (Washington) was perfect in 1.1 innings he pitched this week. He picked up one strikeout and his ERA is now 1.35 on the season.

--Joel Seddon started one game for the Midland RockHounds (A’s) where he gave up two earned runs on five hits. He also walked three batters and struck out one. He earned a no decision and still has a 1-2 record this year.

--Jordan Montgomery pitched six shutout innings for the Trenton Thunder, striking out five and walking just two batters. He earned a no decision.

Advanced A

--Kyle Martin went 4-for-16 (.250) for the Clearwater Threshers (Phillies) where he scored three times and drove in two more.

--Tanner English is still on the 7-day disabled list. He last played April 19 for the Fort Meyers Miracle (Twins).

--Grayson Greiner went 7-for-17 (.412) for the Lakeland Tigers (Detriot) with four RBIs. His season average is now .314.

--Joey Pankake went 4-for-14 (.286) for the Lakeland Tigers, scoring three times and registering one RBI.

--L.B. Dantzler went 3-for-11 for the Dunedin Blue Jays (Toronto) with one run and no RBIs.

Single-A Full Season

--Max Schrock continues to impress for the Hagerstown Suns (Washington), going 6-for-24 (.250) with two RBIs and five runs scored. His season average is .315.

--Jack Wynkoop returned to Columbia with the Asheville Tourists (Rockies) to start against the Fireflies. He went six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits. He earned the win and improved to 4-1 on the year.
