South Carolina has a significant need for defensive backs in the 2017 recruiting class, and on Friday the staff secured a commitment from a talented prospect at the position.

Tallahassee (Florida) Rickards three-star Tavyn Jackson made his pledge to the Gamecocks on the heels of of a stellar camp performance on Monday.

The 5-foot-11, 173-pounder listed several reasons for his decision.

"They really don't have many DBs there," he told GamecockCentral.com. "I like the school, like the area. It's not too much of a drive."

The Gamecock coaching staff was also able to make a significant impression on Jackson leading up to and during his visit earlier in the week.

"Coach T-Rob, Coach Muschamp, Coach Peterson, when I talk to them they're more than just coaches," he said. "That's just me visiting; I haven't even gotten there yet."

Jackson carried offers during the recruiting process from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, UCF, Utah, and others. What will he bring to the field upon getting to USC?

"I'm not the tallest dude, I'm not the strongest dude," he explained. "I can jump high as you, run as fast as any defender. I'm going to make a play regardless. I know how to play receivers certain ways. I'm bringing a kid with a high IQ and being able to adapt to the situation."

During his junior season, Jackson tallied 50 tackles and 15 pass deflections, plus a blocked field goal.
