Dutch Fork wide receiver takes in junior day

Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork wide receiver Austin Connor saw his first major offer roll in earlier this year (from Virginia Tech) and then picked up an invite to South Carolina's campus for the Gamecocks' junior day last Saturday.

The 6-foot, 180-pounder followed through and visited the Carolina campus.

"All of the facilities that they have [stand out] and the strength and conditioning coach (Jeff Dillman), he's somebody that you remember," Connor said. "His character, he's always up-tempo, he's always hyped, he's always excited and laughing."

As a local player, Connor is already familiar with the Carolina program.

"I really like USC and the football program and everything they have going on there," Connor said.

Connor took a junior day visit to Virginia Tech earlier this month and was very impressed with the Hokies' program.

"They offered me back in mid-January, I believe," Connor said "It's a great school. They have my major. I want to be an engineering major and they have one of the best engineering schools in the nation. I like the coaching staff up there. They have a family atmosphere."

Up next for the speedster is a Duke visit on March 7 and a Wake Forest trip shortly after.

He's also hearing from Appalachian State and some Ivy League schools.

"I will look at the engineering program first and see how the program stacks up nationally," Connor says of the factors in his recruitment. "And then i'll look at the football program and see their success and the coaching staff."
