Coach contracts approved

The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees approved 10 football assistant coach contracts on Friday. South Carolina's nine "on-field" assistant coaches' salaries will total $3,950,000, a number in which athletics director Ray Tanner is very comfortable.

"I know when Coach (Will) Muschamp and I sat down, it was important to him that he be able to go out and put together a great staff and we certainly didn't want to put any limitations on that," Tanner said. "We certainly have to be fiscally responsible, but we were in a situation where we were able to go out and get some top-notch assistants."

Following is a breakdown of salaries for assistant coaches:

Bobby Bentley - Contract through May 31, 2017. Total compensation: $300,000 per year

Shawn Elliott - Contract through May 31, 2017. Total compensation: $500,000 per year

Coleman Hutzler - Contract through May 31, 2017. Total compensation: $350,000 per year

Bryan McClendon - Contract through May 31, 2017. Total compensation: $450,000 per year

Mike Peterson - Contract through May 31, 2017. Total compensation: $200,000 per year

Travaris Robinson - Contract through December 31, 2018. Total compensation: $750,000 per year

Kurt Roper - Contract through December 31, 2018. Total compensation, $700,000 per year

Lance Thompson - Contract through December 31, 2017. Total compensation: $500,000 per year

Pat Washington - Contract through May 31, 2017. Total compensation: $200,000 per season.

Jeff Dillman - Contract through May 31, 2017. Total compensation: $400,000 per year

Tanner also added that the Gamecocks have also made the financial dedication needed to upgrade their recruiting operations.

"We've already done that," Tanner said. "While we do have limits financially, (Muschamp) and I discussed, in detail, his plan to put a staff together in recruiting and a recruiting office and that was one of the components that goes into that. I believe we have 11 additional staff members than we had with the previous staff."
