Chavis Dawkins

What I like: Dawkins has a good combination of size and speed, and he knows how to run a variety of routes. He’s most dangerous on short passes and screens where he can show off his after-the-catch abilities as a strong runner. He isn’t overly explosive in and out of his breaks, but Dawkins runs clean routes and understands how to separate himself from defenders in coverage. He also shows a few different moves to beat corners in press coverage at the line of scrimmage – which tells me Dawkins is either well-coached, puts in a good amount of extra work, or a combination of the two.
Instant impact? The Gamecocks need playmakers to step-up at wide receiver, so I anticipate every player at the position will be given ample opportunities to earn a spot in the rotation. However, based on my observations, Dawkins would benefit from a redshirt season to further develop physically.
Rivals rating: Based on my observations, I believe Dawkins should be rated higher. He shows too many positive tools for college coaches to work with to be rated a two-star.
