South Carolina continues to have a strong close to its 2016 recruiting class as Deltona (Fla.) three-star tight end Evan Hinson committed to the Gamecocks today.

"I had a good relationship with my position coach," Hinson said. "And I had family members and other friends that played for Coach (Will) Muschamp before in college, so I committed there."

Hinson was recruited to South Carolina by tight ends coach Pat Washington.

"He's all about trying to get me in there and get me better as a player, so I can play," Hinson said. "He's real cool."

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound former Miami commitment chose the Gamecocks over offers from the Hurricanes, Southern Cal, Michigan, South Florida, West Virginia and North Carolina among others.

"They were telling me I'm a perfect fit in their offense, so I'll get a chance to play early," Hinson said.

Hinson visited Southern Cal this past weekend after visiting the Gamecocks on the Jan. 15 weekend.

"They’re down to earth and they’re cool,” Hinson said about South Carolina at the time. “They just tell me everything real. I think it’s a place I can fit in.”

Hinson is also a standout player on the basketball court where he averaged 23.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game as a junior.
