Braden Webb named SEC Freshman of the Week
South Carolina pitcher Braden Webb was named SEC freshman of the week Monday for his performance in a win over Ole Miss Friday.
Webb struck out a career-high 14 batters and retired 17 consecutive batters in a row at one point as he earned the win in Friday's 9-5 victory at Ole Miss. After allowing three consecutive base runners to reach with one out in the first inning, Webb retired 17 in a row and 23 of 25 at one stretch to help lead the Gamecocks to victory.

It was Webb's first SEC road start in his career with the Garnet & Black. With the win he is now 5-1 on the year. Webb's 14 strikeouts were the most by a Gamecock since 2004 and one short of the school's freshman record of 15 set in 1988.
Along with a 5-1 record, Webb owns a 2.10 ERA in six starts with 13 runs allowed, eight earned, on 18 hits in 34.1 innings with 42 strikeouts and 19 walks. Opponents are hitting .148 against Webb - second best in the SEC.
With a sweep of Ole Miss this weekend, Carolina improves to 6-0 in SEC play for the first time in school history and 23-2 overall.
South Carolina, which owns a 13-game winning streak, hosts College of Charleston Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
