Notes from South Carolina’s 3-1 loss to Oklahoma State that eliminated them from the NCAA Tournament

--The Gamecocks lost their first Super Regional at Founders Park since it opened in 2009. They had won the only other two they hosted here against Connecticut and Oklahoma.

--Aside from the two seniors on the team, Marcus Mooney and DC Arendas, the Gamecocks combined to hit 4-for-28. Arendas and Mooney collectively went 5-for-7.

--The Gamecocks left nine runners stranded on base and hit 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. They also hit 5-for-15 (.333) with runners on base.

--Clarke Schmidt pitched six innings Sunday, giving up three runs on six hits. He also struck out six batters. It was the sophomore’s longest outing since throwing 7.2 innings against Texas A&M on May 13. He’s had four outings since then.

--Schmidt’s six strikeouts bring his season total to 129. It’s the seventh-most strikeouts in school history.

--The Gamecocks finish with 46 wins, the most wins under head coach Chad Holbrook. It’s the most wins for a Gamecock team that didn’t make the College World Series since the 2007 team won 46 games.

--Tyler Johnson had four strikeouts in two innings pitched Sunday. He led the team in postseason strikeouts this year with 17.

--The .257 team batting average was the worst the team had hit in an elimination game this NCAA Tournament.

--South Carolina had two runners on base in five of the last six innings but only scored one run, which came on a passed ball. No one on the South Carolina team had an RBI Sunday.

--DC Arendas ended his college career on a four-game hitting streak.
