Another Saturday commitment

USC landed two commitments on Saturday, with the second coming from junior college linebacker Eldridge Thompson.

The 6-foot-2, 218-pounder, originally from White Station High in Memphis, plays at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. That's the same program that produced recent cornerback enrollee Jamarcus King.

"I knew when Jamarcus committed, and he knew T-Rob for a long time, they've just been on me," Thompson said. "They're one of the main schools that's been recruiting me heavy. I just decided to come down and liked everything I saw and the coaching staff."

How does the Gamecock staff plan on using Thompson?

"For one, they say they love my athleticism and my speed. They want to use me in man coverage on the slots and sometimes I'll be in the box."

Thompson put up strong numbers during the testing portion of his workout, saying that he ran a 4.52 in the forty yard dash and vertical jumped 37.5 inches. He said that he will have two years remaining at the college level.

Last season, Thompson tallied 109 tackles, , one interception, six forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
