Leading Off

--South Carolina advances to its first Super Regional since 2013 when the Gamecocks lost to North Carolina in three games. The Gamecocks are 6-5 in Super Regionals since 2000.

--Five Gamecocks were named to the All-Tournament team this weekend: C, Hunter Taylor; 3B, DC Arendas; OF, Gene Cone; DH, Alex Destino; SP, Tyler Johnson. Tyler Johnson was named Tournament MVP.

--Josh Reagan earned his third win of the season and first of the postseason. He pitched three innings, giving up only three earned runs on three hits.

--Starting pitchers Braden Webb and Clarke Schmidt both pitched Tuesday. South Carolina starts Super Regional play Saturday against Oklahoma State and Holbrook said it could be an unconventional rotation. He said he didn’t rule out Tyler Johnson starting a game.

--Madison Stokes had a hand in 60 percent of the Gamecocks’ runs Tuesday. He went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

On Deck

Chad Holbrook on DC Arendas: “I think he has as much respect in the locker room than anyone we have. Boy, it was great to see him swing the bat…I think he turned on the aggressive switch. I don’t think he knew where that was the past couple months.”

Alex Destino on the team finding their mojo: “Obviously we feel very good where we are right now…We have to keep the same momentum we already have.”

Holbrook on Hunter Taylor’s double against Duke: “Something weird happened. It was like, ‘Oh, we got a break. Oh, we can be ahead in a game in a regional.’ Something happened. I don’t know. They just started feeling good about themselves.”

Holbrook on his team: “It’s neat to be around that. They’ve had that infectious attitude all year. And then they exhibited that Gamecock spirit today and all weekend after we lost that first one. We can be difficult to beat here when we play well and get the crowd going.”

Josh Reagan on the team’s mentality: “From game one we knew we had a chance to beat any team that comes into this park. We got beat in the first game, but that didn’t stop us.”

Batting Cleanup

--Seven of the team’s nine starters hit safely and all of the nine reached base safely.

--After losing Friday night’s game against Rhode Island, the Gamecocks outscored opponents 47-10 during the remainder of the regional.

--Gene Cone went 1-for-4 Tuesday and is now sporting a 12-game hitting streaking heading into the Super Regional.

--Attendance was announced at 7,004.

--Arendas hit his fifth home run of the season. He now has 24 RBI on the season.
