Leading off

--Holbrook said he would shuffle the lineup after Friday’s loss, and he did. Matt William’s made his third start of the season at first base (fifth total start this season), TJ Hopkins made his 21st start of the year (fifth in center field). Marcus Mooney hit second in the order for the second time in three games. John Jones did not play.

--South Carolina dropped consecutive SEC series for the first time all season. They’ve lost a game in three straight conference series.

--Braden Webb struck out seven batters Saturday, bringing his season total to 100. He’s the second Gamecock pitcher this weekend to pass the century mark; Clarke Schmidt surpassed the mark in Friday’s game. Webb’s now the 30th pitcher in school history to have at least 100 punch-outs in a season.

--South Carolina was 0-for-10 with runners on base and 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Over the past five games, the Gamecocks have hit 3-for-40 (.075) with runners in scoring position.

--Madison Stokes hit his first career home run in the fourth inning after giving up a costly error in the top half of the inning that plated a run. It’s his fifth RBI of the year. He finished 1–for-4

On deck

Madison Stokes on home run: “I try not to think about it too much, especially after the mistake I had in the inning before. It was more of a learning moment for me instead of an emotional moment. It taught me to bounce back from it and forget it.”

Madison Stokes on offensive struggles: You have to give it to them, they’re doing a fantastic job up there. But we need to do a better job as always of seeing pitches. We’re just not seeing it too well.”

Braden Webb on offense: “I can’t fault the offense for anything. They kept us on our toes, they have all weekend…I can’t throw that ball away because it was the downfall of the inning we had in the fourth. So no, I’m not saying anything bad about our hitters.”

Braden Webb on confidence: “We still have a chance to be first in the SEC when we come out and win this game tomorrow. We’re not down in the dumps. It’s not the first series we’ve dropped. It’s baseball; baseball’s going to happen. We’re ready for tomorrow.”

Chad Holbrook on : “I knew there’d be some rough waters this year…There’s going to be some things not going our way. Obviously, it’s not going our way. There’s a sense of urgency to figure this thing out and figure it out in a hurry.”

--Reed Scott gave up a run in 3.1 innings pitched Saturday, ending his streak of seven straight appearances where he didn’t give up a run.
